Meet Toby, a three-year-old Irish Setter dog, and the model for my latest dog portrait commission. Toby lives with a family with his canine friends, another Irish setter dog named Pete, and two Wire Haired Dachshunds called Finn and Otto.
Toby loves to sit in the backyard, patiently waiting for a squirrel to chase. He’ll sit motionless for an hour or more. He loves toys, mostly to shake at us or at his brothers to show that he has something special. Toby is extremely affectionate, but expresses his desire for attention as demands by, for example, pawing at his owners, squealing, or flea-biting our clothes.
Irish Setters are good family dogs with a sweet temperament and great companions for their human folks. They are rollicking playmates and tennis-ball fetchers for the children, which makes them a good breed to have with children.
